This is the high class bullshit that i live for.
This Tuesday at the Louvre in Paris an Angry Russian Woman pulled a teacup from her purse and threw it at the Mona Lisa.

*PLEASE LET THAT SHIT SINK IN*

Now while I was not at all impressed with the Mona Lisa, at no point did I feel compelled to hurl a piece of tableware at it. But then again I guess art moves people in different ways. Whatever.

The Itsy Bitsy Mona Lisa; encased in glass behind a wooden barrier in its own separate wall.

What I admire most about this dashing display of raw emotion is that the "Angry Russian Woman" was prepared for the task ahead of her. She was not satisfied with the cheapness of a paper cup, nor was she barbaric enough to send a small rock upside Mona Lisa's head. She so thoughtfully chose a teacup: an ancient symbol of refinement, class, and sophistication. So take that you no eyebrow-havin heffa... Needless to say the "Angry Russian Woman" was clearly deranged and was promptly carted off to a loony bin for testing.

Though you probably can't tell....I have earned a Bachelor's Degree
....and no, its not in party n' bullshittin.
While toiling my days away in undergrad I had the pleasure of having Michael Thomas as one of my Literature professors.

In a sea of old pasty white faces....Prof. Thomas was a little island of Milk Chocolate. A welcoming oasis in the arid dessert of ugly City University professors.

Needless to say...I sat in the front row. Everyday. Even if I was Late. And woe be unto the hoe that tried to take my seat.
Bigger than his chiseled face and hot bod, Thomas was an amazing professor. He possessed a voracious ability to analyze and ferret out the hidden meanings in text; in a manner that was more akin to my Media studies classes more so than the average English course. Prof. Thomas had us reading Slave Narratives, something that I would've never picked up on my own. And because of this my understanding of what it means to be Black in America is what it is today.....minus my love for semi-ignorant rap songs (Halle Berrryy Halle Berry!!).While browsing my fave book store of all time McKnally back in 2007-ish, I was so excited to see that Prof. Thomas had published his first book MAN GONE DOWN.

“Man Gone Down” focuses on four increasingly desperate days in the life of an unnamed black narrator living in Brooklyn, whose marriage seems to be falling apart. Brilliant and troubled, he is on the eve of his 35th birthday but is broke, struggling not to lapse back into alcoholism and burdened by the knowledge he has fallen short of the promise he seemed to show as a younger man.

Like a trend that you just picked up on, then started noticing it everywhere all of a sudden, this book was popping up on top 10 lists and most notably that of the New York Times Book Review.
So you can imagine how overjoyed I was for Prof. Thomas when he received the Impac Dublin Prize.... and by prize I mean somewhere around $138,00.

The Impac Dublin award is often described as “the largest and most international” literary prize in the world after the Nobel. It is open to fiction written in any language, with nominations made by libraries; in the 2009 competition, 157 libraries in 41 different countries offered 146 candidates. The prize, first awarded in 1996, was established by the Dublin city government and is financed by Impac, the multinational business consulting company.

Man Gone Down is currently in its fourth printing with 65,000 copies shipped. The Arts section of yesterday's NY Times ran a piece where Michael Thomas touches upon race in America since Obama, his plans for the future and the similarities between himself and Man Gone Down's protagonist. There are millions of those out there in the blogosphere and I'd figure I'd leave that to the professionals like this one and this one and oh yes this one.

But I must acknowledge my humble beginnings in the fashion rag world. For the major portion of 2006, I slaved away as a fashion intern at NYLON MAG. I don't know what it is about Mac and Cheese that makes people so happy.
Little kid and full grown adults go CRAZY for a bowl of mac and cheese.

I guess having S'mac, the East Village eatery dedicated to the stuff, just wasn't enough; so the good folks at Cafeteria and Delicatessen seem to be putting the finishing touches on Mac Bar.

Wedged in between McKnally bookstore and the already-open Delicatessen, Mac Bar is rumoured to be dishing out 12 unique varieties of Mac and Cheese.
While Delicatessen is a depository for douche bags with so-so cuisine, I hope the comfort food at Mac Bar will be well-worth the trouble of fending the lame and drunken masses.

The first week of July is the tentative date for the opening.

Don't be fooled by the rocks that she's got, Senora Sonia hails from Da Boogie Down Bronx. Lil Sonia grew up in the Bronxdale Housing Projects and went on to earn degrees from Princeton University and Yale Law School.

If Judge Sotomayor is confirmed, she will be the first Female Hispanic to serve on the Supreme Court. AZUCAR!!

More commonly known as Payola, pay for play, the FTC wants bloggers to be upfront with readers about the source of the merchandise that they endorse or review favorably. In a time when advertising budgets are rapidly shrinking, and consumers are looking to man-on-the-street blogs versus Consumer's Digest and larger publications for the final word in spending, blogs have become a cheap alternative. Rather than shelling out big bucks for ad space in mags, in their merciful benevolence companies send out freebies to needy and deserving bloggers, who in turn might-or-might-not praise the merchandise. Now where is the harm in that?!?!
I like to think of it as the Corporation/Editorial/Consumer Circle of Life.....like in The Lion King.

The bugs eat the grass, the animals eat the bugs, the animals then eat each other, and we eat the animals. SEE?!?! One hand feeds the other. No body moves, No body gets hurt.

Hey Snobbers,

So I been semi uninspired of late. And as I'm sure you've noticed haven't posted anything recently. Since I've started this blog, I've encountered a steady stream of supporters/whip-crackers telling me "You need to update your blog" or asking "When are you gonna write something new?"

For anyone who really knows me you know that:

A) I'm lazy

B) This blog is a labour of love...emphasis on labour

and

C) I'll NEVER blog simply for the sake of blogging.

Blogging for the sake of blogging and, for that matter, doing anything without the true motivation or inspiration produces half-assed shit. And I ain't never been about half-assin' it, except, maybe when it comes to sex.... Just kidding.

As a Cultural Critic, I feel that too often people "create" without possessing any real love for what they do. And without love, there is no respect for the craft. Hence, people will stamp their names on any-old shit-in-a-box and keep it moving.

Well there will be none of that here at Critique de Culture, where we blog with integrity and put our heart and souls into each tiny morsel of hate and snobbery.

With that being said here are my new reasons for living:

Such a Good Movie. Kinda low budge but great nonetheless.
One of my favorite parts was at the end when Chilli, Lauryn Hill, Nia Long, Mekhi Pfeiffer reinact a previous scene.

Luckily for me, some fool posted the entire movie, in like 8 parts of course, on YouTube.

Well y'all Sample Sale Santa came thru this holiday for your girl Snobette .
