ONCE RIPE, NOW LUMINOUS
Bopping about town, south of 14st that is, one can come across many people. Given. And of those people, this is an enclave of talented, driven and creative individuals. Given. And of this enclave, there is an even smaller niche of creatives that are truly working and hustling to bring their visions to life. Given. And of this niche there is a handful that will see the promise of their talent and hard work come to fruition. Not so given. And of this handful, I have met Folasade Ologundudu.
RIPE, Ologundudu’s first foray into jewelry, celebrated the voluptuous forms and the feminine mystic. Inspired by the sophistication of her male counterparts and noticing the absence of jewelry that suited their avant garde style, she created LUMINARY to fill the void.
The Guillotine Bracelet and The Blind Ring
With this new line entitled The Space Blockade; Ologundudu shifts her focus from the supple sinuous silhouette of RIPE to the asymmetry and angular form of LUMINARY. Architecture, geometry and negative spaces served as components for the visual synthesis of these jewels. A lesson in contrasts to say the least, Ologundudu shows that she is no one trick pony when it comes to her art.
The Modern Architect Earring
The Guillotine Cutter
Defining a LUMINARY as “one who inspires others , leading light” Miss Ologundudu invites us to share “our experiences and ideas, our passions and dreams, in the most intimate of ways; in the way you dress, style yourself, and see the world around you.”

PS: She did the Art direction for the amazing-ass look book too!

Double Whammy: Bilal @ SOBs
and no I ain't talkin' 'bout no damn gum neither .
Two nights of Bilal.
Live @ SOB's.....this one is gonna be a Panty Creamer for sure.
I hope he actually shows up for both performances....I mean I love B and all, but the last time I saw him perform he was actin' all sketchy and whatnot....and kept leaving the stage for extended periods of time. Made a sister nervous and all, had me clutching me purse and making sure the exits were clearly marked.
Either way I will definitely be in the house for one of these nights....shit, both of them if it were up to me.
If you love and respect yourself get ur tickets NOW..... and by NOW I mean yesterday.
Check SOB's website for the 411
Peep this funny ass performance of "Sometimes"......it gets really good around 2:17.

Coco avant Chanel

Get ready bitches.... if you thought the devil wore Prada? Wrong!!...he wears Chanel and many strands of pearls and 5 inch heels and pantyhose and fancies red lipstick.
...and 'no' Karl Lagerfeld is not the devil but he did style the movie.

It doesn't take a psychic or a genius or even a high school drop-out to guess that Lifetime wonked up Gabrielle Coco Chanel biography. Truthfully, they should be ashamed to have even attempted it...They casted Shirley MacLaine and the movie was in ENGLISH DAMMITT!!
So hopefully somebody got it right this time. Written and directed by Anne Fontaine, Coco Avant/Before Chanel focuses on the Chanel's early years: the people and events made her in to the icon we cherish today.
Coco at work.
Filming began in early summer last year and its said to premiering next month.
Looks like its gonna be FIERCE!!
Ok, now all in favor of permanently retiring the word FIERCE say Aye?
Aye...I'm actually quite ashamed that I even used it....please forgive me I know not what I do.

l'homage: Sade

I'm Crying Everyone's tears.
I have already paid for all my future sins
Theres nothing anyone can say to take this away
If you were mine, If you were mine,
I wouldn't want to go to heaven
Cherish the day
I won't pretend that I intend to stop living
I won't pretend that I'm good at forgiving
But I can't hate you, although I have tried
I still really really love you, love is stronger than pride
There must have been an angel by my side
Something heavenly led me to you
Look at the sky, its the colour of love
Film School Throwback

Such a Good Movie. Kinda low budge but great nonetheless.
One of my favorite parts was at the end when Chilli, Lauryn Hill, Nia Long, Mekhi Pfeiffer reinact a previous scene.
Luckily for me, some fool posted the entire movie, in like 8 parts of course, on YouTube.
Hooray for Piracy!!!

Wiley for The Night: Kehinde at Deitch
If you're missed out on Miami Art Basel like me, thank the Art gods that we can still get "DOWN" in NYC!!
In case you didn't know, its imperative that you stop by the Deitch galleries to check out DOWN the latest showing from NY-based artist Kehinde Wiley.
I've already gone twice, and I'm sure I'll be back again before it closes on December 20.
photo courtesy of The Fader.comDOWN is a exhibition of large scale works by Mr. Wiley, where his Jamals-from-'round-the-way subjects become "historical paintings and sculptures of fallen warriors and figures in a state repose."
With the heavy sensual overtones present in DOWN's paintings, Wiley transforms these heroic classical milieus into thugesque-come-hither vulnerable moments.
Previous painting, not featured in DOWNMr. Wiley's use of everyday Joe...err Jerome Schmoes combines the schools of Neoclassicism and Realism all at once. Reminiscent of Jean-Francois Millet's Realism, Wiley disrupts the status quo by placing the marginalized at the forefront of a large canvas. In Millet's time, it was his use of Provencal peasants that received much criticism.
The Gleaners by Millet
While Wiley keeps it real, he also adopts the posture and silhouette of Neoclassical painters such as Jacques-Louis David. Namely David's Death of Marat comes to mind when I look at the figures of/in DOWN.
The Death of Marat by David
Well enough of my amateur pontificatin'....
go and see for yourselves!!
All this goodness has been brought to you by the good people at Deitch Projects
and the genius mind of Kehinde Wiley
